The Latest Dieting Trends

It seems like every time you turn on the television they’re talking about the latest diet trend and newest scientific study that proves this or that helps you lose weight the most effectively. Then six months later you’re learning the diet is actually harmful and the newest diet is the way go because it’s the complete opposite. If the first diet tells you carbohydrates are evil and you should eat all protein the next diet will tell you carbs are good and too much protein is bad. It seems like you can never win. But not all diets are bad, in fact there are some really good health and fitness plans out there. Here are the latest dieting trends, whether or not they work for you is debatable because what works for one person may never work for another simply because of body chemistry. So the only way to know for sure if a diet will work is to try it.

Living With Raw Foods

Living with a raw food diet is known as raw foodism or rawism. This diet proposes consumption of foods that are 75 to 100 raw. Uncooked and unprocessed meat, century egg, dairy, fish, shellfish, vegetables, nuts, young coconut milk, legumes, dried fruit, and freshly juiced vegetables and fruits are some of the choices for a raw food diet.

We are so used to eating cooked and processed foods that living with raws foods is, to many, both unappealing and impossible. But for those who believe in the benefits of a raw food diet, the shift to raw foodism can be realized with careful planning and research. Know what foods you can eat raw and what you cannot.Changing of diet from cooked to raw foods should also be taken slowly and in progression rather than suddenly. The goal is to make the adapt to the new diet. At the start of their raw food diet, people should expect nausea, headaches, loose bowel movement, and other detoxification reactions for several number of days.

Vegetarianism

Vegetarianism refers to the belief and practice of eating foods derived from the plant kingdom only. Meat or slaughtered animals (e.g. fish, shellfish, fowl, poultry) is typically excluded from the diet, as well as animal products or produce such as honey and eggs. Vegetarianism practice, however, varies, with some abstaining from meat but not from animal products like eggs.

Based on their strictness of diet, there are four types of vegetarians:

  • Lacto ovo vegetarianism diet excludes meat, poultry, and fish but includes eggs, dairy, and honey.

  • Lacto vegetarianism excludes meat, poultry, fish, and eggs but consumes dairy and honey.

  • Ovo vegetarianism excludes meat, poultry, fish, and dairy; eats eggs and honey.

•Veganism excludes all meats and other foods derived from animals such as milk, cheese, eggs, and honey.

The Acai Berry A Waste of Time or Not?

A few lines first if you haven’t heard of the magic and publicity this little berry has been generating.

The Acai (pronounced ah sah ee) Berry is native to Central and South America, grown mainly in swamps and floodplains. It has been around now for about 5 years. It grows atop Acai Palm Trees. When harvested the pulp of the fruit needs to be quickly frozen in order to preserve its nutrients. The quality of the berry has been shown to degrade rapidly if not frozen straight away. It’s a deep purple colour, about one inch in diameter, similar to a grape but with less pulp. The Palm is also harvested for its ‘hearts of palm’ which are often consumed in salads.
